In 2010, Mitt Romney made $33500 in 13 hours 32 minutes and 51 seconds.

It would take you 646 years 7 months 8 days 17 hours 48 minutes and 15 seconds to make what Mitt made in 2010.

Backyard Astronomy: Searching for Quandrantids

“The Quandrantids Meteor Shower peaked this week on Jan. 4th. I wasn’t able to go out of the city so I set up in my backyard, which happily has one of its best night sky views pointed right at the meteor shower radiant.

Thanks to the strong light pollution of the city I only saw three bright ones and a few dim ones, though I did see one brilliant green meteor. So, where are all the meteors in this image? There actually is one very dim green one that I’m going to guess is the brilliant one but it barely registered above the city light pollution (good luck finding it, it’s near the branches on the left side of the center tree. Not quite exactly what I was hoping for, but at least I now have a cool night sky image from our backyard!”

Why These Things Piss Me The Fuck Off

  • Women were not-even-so-subtly made to feel ashamed of being skinny in fifties’ advertisements, and offered ways to gain weight to be sexy. Now women are made to feel ashamed of being fat, and offered ways to lose weight to be sexy. The fact that there are trends as to how much one should weigh and that it is basically encouraged in propaganda makes me sick to my stomach.
  • Who are you to define the word sexy? People are attracted to all sorts of shapes and sizes. Sexy does not need to be a flat stomach. Sexy does not need to be curvy hips. Sexy is the confidence you have in yourself, because you know no matter how you look, you look good.
  • It is definitely not ok to go around slamming other people for being thin, or for being curvy,  especially since it makes it seem like you feel bad for the other team and are rooting for them out of pity. Skinny people don’t need to be defended. Curvy people don’t need to be defended. The fact that either one is being degraded or celebrated is just sad.
  • Quit trying to put a definition on what’s attractive, because there is no one definition.

COMMENTARY GETS ALL THE WINS

Reblogging for commentary, said exactly what I was going to say. “Quit trying to put a definition on what’s attractive, because there is no one definition.”

YOU GO GIRL.

Cupertino high school student Angela Zhang may know the cure for cancer: As a freshman, she started reading doctoral-level papers on biological engineering. By her sophomore year in high school, she managed to convince Stanford University to let her use their laboratories, and by junior year, she began doing her own research that led her to develop a recipe that boggles even her chemistry teacher.

Zhang’s recipe won her a $100,000 award at a national science competition sponsored by Siemens.

Her method of curing cancer by aiming an infrared light at mutated cells killed cancer in mice; it will be a few more years before it can be determined if the method works in humans. Nevertheless, Zhang’s three years of research is considered a breakthrough. [CBS News]
